Helen of Troy, the face that launched a thousand ships

The goddess of strife Eris took a golden apple and inscribed now famous words: »For the most beautiful«. When the other goddesses found it, a big dispute erupted among Hera, Athena and Aphrodite, that all claimed the apple belongs to them. Zeus did not want to make the tricky decision, so he instructed Paris, the handsome prince of Troy, to make the call.

Paris could not decide, as all three were ideally beautiful, so the goddesses attempted to bribe him. Hera offered ownership of all of Europe and Asia. Athena offered skill in battle and wisdom. Aphrodite offered the love of the most beautiful woman on Earth: Helen of Sparta. Paris could not refuse the later and chose Aphrodite and therefore the love of Helen.

At the time she was married to Menelaus, king of Sparta, but that did not stop the new love. Paris traveled to Sparta and escaped with Helen back to Troy. The Greeks assembled an armada of 1,000 Greek ships sailed across the Aegean Sea to Troy with the great hero Achilles leading the charge. Here is where YOUR journey begins.
